This story takes some wild turns.Kal Hudson is a Wall Street economist, who finds himself back in time in 108 AD in Massalia (a commercial trading part of the Roman Empire). Penniless, he starts working his way up the economic ladder. Eventually he becomes the wealthiest man in Massalia.
Kal, now a wealthy man, craves power. He enlists the help of Marcus (his business partner) and Atilius (a stealthy assassin). He tells them to set his sights on Gaius Flavius and Laelius Hortensius (senators they can potentially manipulate). Laelius proves to be more of a challenge and he and Atilius come up with a trap involving Octavia (Laelius's wife through arranged marriage).
The story takes a strange, but intriguing turn when Kal has these visions involving "Vex and Volm". He then learns striking information about he got to be in his situation.
This story combines mystery, murder, corruption, parallel universes, and time travel. What's not to like?

If I had known how short the book was I would have not wasted my money. The story was very simplistic and predictable.
I thoroughly enjoyed this short story as it had a few twists and was very well written. Mr. Nichols did an excellent job with character portrayal and depth in such a compact book. I was engrossed from beginning til end, which came all to quickly. Even though this is a short story there is a lot of punch in these pages, little mayhem and murder, oh and Time Travel of course, it is a fantastic read for all and I highly recommend it!!
