Troy moved to Red Deer, Colorado to earn his degree while staying as far from his West Virginia hometown as possible. He'd stopped by there after his discharge, of course. But he left as soon as human decency would allow. He didn't want to talk about war, about the friends he had lost and things he had done. And he certainly didn't want to have the whole coming out scene. That could wait until some vague time in the unforeseeable future. Like maybe never.
Incoming Veterans Affairs Volume 2 A E Wasp Books
Troy, a young man drifting in time. Just waiting for something. Life on pause.Dmitri, a quiet, lonely animal vet. Add in a red-haired pixie who thinks they are perfect for each other.
This is not an "easy, light" read. These two have been burnt and traumatized by life.
The truth of PTSD explored and it is ugly, just like war is ugly. The book addresses some of the issues that cause this insidious condition to be ignored by family members and friends. It is not something you can "just get over."
This book needs a careful read. It is obvious that the author has taken the time to try and understand the dynamics involved with one person in an introvert and his partner suffering.
One thing is for sure, love in all its aspects needs to be nurtured and cared for in a delicate balance.

Incoming Veterans Affairs Volume 2 A E Wasp Books Reviews
I loved the fact that the relationship between the main characters in “Incoming” was not over-dramatic, the protagonists of course as any other couple had various obstacles that they had to overcome and there was conflict, but they handled it together, without the usual over the top drama we see in romance.
I think there was a nice chemistry between Troy and Dmitri, I really liked Dmitri’s introverted personality, the way he tried to help Troy with his healing process and when his personality kept him from making any friends, Troy’s more social character helped him socialize more. There was also the fact that throughout the book, they were both creative when it came to find a place to spend some time alone
“And I < 3 your truck. I get a boner every time I see one on the road now. Awkward.”
Now when it comes to romance books, there is a time when the reader just wants to jump into the book and yell at the characters so they can pull themselves together. In this book, we don’t need to do that because there is an amazing secondary character named Angel who will do that for us, honestly I don’t know how Dmitri and Troy would survive without having Angel telling them to stop being stupid all the time.
“Shut it. I’m not done. We’ll talk about why you’re a little b**** soon enough.”
The story overall was good, but I think with a little more editing we would have seen an even better, more polished version of it.
I voluntarily reviewed the free copy that I received.
4 stars - standalone in series
Although a thorough proofreading is in order by the author, Incoming was a lovely telling of the romantic “first” relationship between 29 year old, veterinary researcher Dmitri and just-home-from-the-war, 25 year old, Troy. I used the word first above because Troy only recently solidified to himself that he is gay, while Dmitri had had one failed relationship after another. Both men weren’t looking for Mr. Right, but this wouldn’t be a love story if they didn’t find him in the other.
The PTSD theme threaded prevalent through the story and was handled well. I loved the addition of the service dogs, and would have liked to seen more. It’s a wonderful program I’ve been blessed to see used before. Even without a current pet of my own, I’m versed in the benefits of comforting fur.
I fell in love with Dmitri’s best friend, Angel. A no-nonsense girl after my own heart. She tells it like it is, offering an ear and shoulder where needed.
I would have liked to have the relationship between Troy and his own family brought to light, even if it was only coming out to a sibling. That part of the storyline was left dangling. How can Troy truly move on without confronting all of his demons?
Back to the proofreading note - lots of errors which pulled me from the story. I wondered if maybe it was my copy from the author, but the version I downloaded from contained the same. Words were missing, people were inverted, and several times present tense snuck in in a past tense story. Overall though, I liked the author’s style and will be keeping an eye out for more by this author.
Dmitri and Troy are fighting different battles. Dmitri - keep his head above water with debt and a couple other issues. Troy - adjusting to civilian life after 6 years in the military and suffering from PTSD. They meet through a mutual friend and it sparks a flame neither man thought could be lit.
The story itself is good and I really like the portrayal of Troy and his adjustment to finally admitting to his PTSD. Dmitri was kind of a selfish jerk and at one point I really didn't like him but then I realized that he resonated with what some people go through after realizing their significant other is suffering from PTSD. He makes it very real so as much as I wanted to hit him upside the head, I couldn't (well, aside from the fact that he is a fictional character).
I bought the paperback of this book so just a warning - this version isn't edited well. The ebook has been edited though.
